Mobility as a Service Prototype
Integrated Transit Experience
Atlas allows users to customize their trips across public transit, rideshare, carshare, micromobility, and personal vehicles modes without needing to ever leave the app. Adding or removing modes is as easy as 2 taps, and Atlas will reconfigure routes to match your mode preferences.
Contextual Trip Information
Atlas adds layers of external data to typical transit information, contextualizing the transit experience and allowing users to better understand what their trip will actually look like. This data can range from walking elevation, bus crowdedness, or restaurant reviews taken from a wide range of sources (like Yelp, crowd-sourcing, or Google Maps API), ensuring quick and accurate updates on the go.
Convenience at every step
Atlas’s search feature enables new interactions for wayfinding users, allowing them to explore the Seattle area in a streamlined way that integrates data from multiple sources. This ensures that no matter where you go, you’ll have the most accurate, real-time information you need at your fingertips.
Rich Trip Planning
With Atlas’s quick look interface, comparing routes has never been easier. Only the routes that meet the user’s preferences are shown and are optimized based on their priorities. Atlas’s multi-variable sorting algorithm ensures that users are given the most viable route first, and then give them the ability to make quick modifications if desired.
Changing Driver Behavior
The built-in rewards system helps give users a clear indication of how impactful a suggested route is through redeemable points. Over time, users can redeem these points for tangible assets, such as an hour of free parking or free public transit uses. This way, users can focus on taking the routes that meet their priorities while unconsciously making a positive contribution to society.
Seamless Navigation
Traditional navigation experiences require users to rely on multiple services to get to their destination. Atlas solves this problem by bringing all of the information and experiences necessary into a singular menu. Now, users are able to pay for all transit modes, unlock micromobility options, create reports for other users to see, and search for anything along their route - all in one place.
Real Time Alerts
This extends to the in-app alert system. Once data is received through a 3rd party service (Google Maps, OneBusAway) or crowdsourced (has met a statistical threshold of similar reports), users are given actionable alerts while they are in navigation. No longer do users need to quit their trip to change their route parameters - acting on new information is as simple as tap and go.
Frictionless Payment
Atlas creates a singular payment platform based on the ORCA system to unify all transit modes. Users are able to pay for public transit, Uber rides, scooter rentals, and more, using the flexible in-app payment feature. From navigation, users just tap on the menu whenever they are near a payment kiosk to instantly submit their information.
Plus much more.
Atlas provides the opportunity for Seattle citizens to reimagine their travel experience and consider the larger impacts of their individual choices on society. For city officials, Atlas provides a vision for how our transportation future might look. As Seattle works towards a singular Mobility as a Service solution for the public, Atlas can help guide the choices we make and lead to a healthier, more convenient future for us all.
