New Report on Time Spent Outdoors from Our Survey on Modern Life

Getting outdoors is good for people – it can lower stress levels, lower blood pressure and heart rate, increase immune function, help align circadian rhythms (and thus lead to better sleep), build stronger bones and even reduce myopia in children. It’s an important – if often overlooked – health behavior.

Building H just released some new research on the question of how much time Americans actually spend outdoors and the answer is … not so much. Most people are getting an hour a day or less of outdoor time, many people are getting far less, and there are some serious disparities by income, gender and age.
